Avalanche Skills Day
8-10 Hours | Beginner - Intermediate | 1-8 People
Your skills day will begin the evening before with a 1.5 hour zoom meeting where your guide will discuss the basics of recognizing and traveling through avalanche terrain. This will set you up to make the most of your day in the field. The next day your guide will meet you at 8 am at the agreed upon location, usually the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. You will start by discussing the avalanche conditions and weather forecasts and go over the tour plan for the day. Next, we will learn how to use the standard avalanche safety equipment of beacon, shovel and probe. We will learn how to conduct a correct beacon search and best techniques for digging out a burial victim. After becoming familiar with our gear we will head out into the hills to observe and navigate real avalanche terrain. Lunch, snacks and hot drinks are included!
