Longs Peak Summit Ascent
Full Day & Overnight | INTERMEDIATE to Expert | 1-4 People
Long's Peak is one of Colorado's most spectacular 14'000 peaks and never fails to provide a true mountain climbing adventure. At 10 miles round trip by it's most direct route and 14 miles round trip by the standard route climbing, Longs requires commitment and endurance no matter how you choose to to it! This climb will take you through dark dense pine forests past cascading creeks up through wide valleys of alpine tundra before you tackle the challenges of Long's guarded upper reaches. There is no "easy" way to the summit of Longs. Whether you choose the long and wandering class 3 scrambles of the Keyhole or Loft routes or perhaps elect for a more direct but technical route up the steep North face you will not reach the summit without effort. The challenges make the rewards all the sweeter, the views and position achieved are breathtaking. This is certainly adventure you will not forget.
This is an excellent mountain on which to consider climbing with a guide. Route finding can be challenging with mistakes being consequential. The standard route is not considered technical but can rapidly become so with any inclement weather. Our guides always climb with the appropriate equipment to address these conditions and make sure we can get up and off the mountain safely.
Climbs can be booked as a single long day or with an overnight camping on the mountain.
Online bookings for Long's Peak climbs are welcome but are accepted on a provisional basis. We will review scheduling and client's experience before fully confirming the booking. We encourage you to call or email in advance to confirm details before booking.
Single Day Long's Peak Climb: Single Day Longs Peak climbs begin in the very early morning, usually between 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM depending on the weather forecast and route choice. Most summer days in Colorado see a significant chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and we want to be below safely below tree line before these become a hazard.
Overnight Long's Peak Climb: Overnight Longs Peak climbs break up the climb over two days by camping on the mountain. This is an incredibly rewarding experience camping in a beautiful setting and providing the opportunity to really soak in the experience of the mountain. Many overnight groups also have the opportunity to bag an additional summit of Mount Lady Washington or Storm Peak.
Time: Single Day Climbs start times
vary between 1 am and 3 am generally.
